Inspire

Every since I was little I was taught to be an inspiration to others. For me, most days that is very hard. Some days it’s just not in me. I want to live in my little bubble. I want to be grumpy. I don’t want to smile. Some days I chalk it up to those pre-menopause hormones and other days (like my momma would say) it’s just pure meanness.

How do you try to inspire others? I try very hard to live by The Golden Rule. Then I got to thinking. I preach and preach all day long on doing good towards others. I threw The Golden Rule out the window. Nowadays I call it being the person my parents raised me to be. I let that person merge onto the interstate even though I am grumbling and want to get home. I hold open the door for that momma who has her hands full. I pay a compliment. I offer an encouraging word. We don’t have to do anything spectacular to be inspiring. We just have to be us. That’s enough. Everyone has a story.

I have so many people in my life that inspire me. From time to time in this blog I will give those a shout out.

The first person I want to honor is a man by the name of Mr. Roy. He’s the husband of a beautiful lady that I work with. What makes Mr. Roy so special? Everything. Years ago Mr. Roy had an aneurysm. If you know anything about aneurysms they are quite deadly and don’t have a high survival rate. Mr. Roy survived. Not only did he survive, he continues to thrive. You don’t see him without a smile on his face. A smile is a beautiful thing. Also, he is one of the best cooks that I have ever met and believe me, being a chubby girl that is saying a lot. Mr. Roy is a special person. He is always making special things for us at work. To overcome something like this and not wallow is inspiring. Today is his 65th birthday. Mr. Roy is the definition of “adapt and overcome”.

Happy Birthday Mr. Roy. You are an inspiration.
